a cup of Joy

Happy Holidays from North Carolina!

I'm sending a cup of Joy your way! I have lots of joy to share and give. Thank you, friends and customers out there who have supported my ideas through this blog and through support of my pottery and bought handmade. I appreciate you and hope you have wonderful holidays and a happy New Year!

I'll see you here in the studio in the approaching new year where I'll be sharing lots of great new pots and thoughts to share!

If you want your own tangible 'cup of Joy', wait for my online Etsy shop to reopen in the new year.

Cheers!

Joy

A warmup

Just before I stop to take a break for the holidays, I've warmed up with some pots to whet my appetite until the new year. These lobed carved bowls are new with deeper notches in the foot! I like them. Can't wait to do more notching when I get back! I'm eager to use those long cold winter days to make lots of pots. I'm going to take the 'keepers' of the year and study them to see how they can be new and improved in the next firing. I've been using porcelain clay and with the often snowy view out my throwing window, I've been thinking the white winter theme is quite nice!

Details

Winter is settling in around me and I can't help but notice it. I love the winter landscape, especially the unexpected details you find with the sugary snow and the silhouette of the bare trees on the mountain ridges that surround the area that I live and work. It is exploding full of inspiration for textures to discover in clay and it makes me eager to be in the studio.

Today's flurries were great for making perfect snowballs!
