My photo bulbs just burned out. I've been running around sanding and pricing pots for the big show this weekend and finally have just settled down to set up my photo booth display to take shots of my best pots, and then my new bulbs just burned out. Now there's only one of them working left, and I usually use three, but it could be just minutes before I lose the last one. I live out in the middle of nowhere and I just bought two of these in Asheville the other day. At the time, they were the last two at the photo store in Asheville, too. Daylight bulbs you use around the house aren't bright enough, hmmm....I'm at a stand point. I have to do this today! I guess I could try those work lamps you find at hardware stores...this would be cheaper in the long run. I am shooting digital, so it is easy to reset the white balance to adjust to any type of bulb I get.
Sorry to vent my frustrations...but this is on my to-do list and I was looking forward to crossing it off today. It has to be done before Friday. Surely there's something else to do, a potter is never bored.

Jeez, that does suck (pardon my french). I look forward to seeing your pots this weekend. Did Will's firing go ok?
Hope so.
;-)
Michael,
I got it worked out after a long drive to the store...now I'm deep into taking slides and enjoying using my camera to record all the soft details.
Will's firing went pretty late in the wee hours as usual, and the top cones didn't really get too far along but we think they are in the wings and like before, it really is hot up there. We'll see late tomorrow night I think...he'll really have HOT pots at the show. Pssss....
See ya at the potters market!
Joy, if you get into a bind again, try a big hardware store like Lowes or something, or maybe a craft store like Michaels, and look for compact florescent, full-spectrum bulbs. Not the regular compact florescent, make sure they are full-spectrum. They are close to natural daylight at 5000K. The photo lights are 5500K I think.
Thanks Deborah. The best temporary thing I could find since I live out in the boonies, was a 300 W utility bulb. It didn't say what kilowatt it was. But the ones that burned out earlier were 3400K, 500 W. I guess whatever I got is okay because the pictures and colors seem accurate. I've always just used the photo tungsten lights from the photo store, and was unsure of other types that I could use, but knew I could find other types since now I use digital and set the white balance. I just don't know much about all those other names of types of bulbs.
I love living out here, but sometimes it feels so frustrating when you need to go run a quick errand!
